Nintendo Direct: Metal Slug Ultimate Collection Combines Ten Classics Into One

SNK’s Metal Slug is one of those series that just rocks. It’s an unapologetic 2D run-and-gun buffet of blistering bullets and some of the best pixel art ever made. This writer spent many a quarter at Launderworld in Alameda, California the day he discovered Metal Slug. That love hasn’t faltered all these years later, and it’s with great pleasure that we share with you the news that Metal Slug Ultimate Collection will drop in 2027 with a combined ten mighty games for you to enjoy. Take a gander:

This 30th anniversary celebratory compilation includes the following games:

• Metal Slug (1996)
• Metal Slug 2 (1998)
• Metal Slug X (1999)
• Metal Slug 3 (2000)
• Metal Slug 4 (2002)
• Metal Slug 5 (2003)
• Metal Slug Advance (2004)
• Metal Slug 6 (2006)
• Metal Slug 7 (2008)
• The legendary Metal Slug Location Test Version (Never officially released)

SNK says that these games are getting the M2 treatment, the legendary devs renowned for porting classic games to modern hardware. SNK says to look forward to save states, picture options, online play, and more. It is worth noting that the Arcade Archives versions of most of these games are available on Nintendo Switch already, but having everything in one bundle might be worth it. Plus, the chance to play that prototype is an intriguing proposition to consider, as well. We’ll keep you posted on pricing and a release date for Metal Slug Ultimate Collection as we learn more.
