Electric-type Pokémon are just one of 18 different types in the world of Pokémon Go. Each has its own strengths, weaknesses and best Pokémon. Electric-type Pokémon are generally known for high speed, strong attacks and low defence. Kinda like a mouse. An electric mouse...

As such, it's important to know the best Electric-type Pokémon in Pokémon Go. Given that they are super-effective against Flying and Water-type Pokémon, this is a type you’ll want on top of. But, as always, some are worthy of your time, Candy and Stardust, and others are not.

So, to make life easy for everyone, I've split this page into multiple sections, including an overview of what Electric-type Pokémon are, the best Legendary Electric-type Pokémon in Pokémon Go and the top best non-Legendary Electric-type Pokémon in Pokémon Go, including a brief analysis of each.

Best Electric-type Legendary Pokémon

With so many different Electric-type Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Go, it is getting incredibly difficult to know which ones you can rely on. There are 11 Legendary and Mythical Pokémon of this type, most of which have already been released in Pokémon Go.

Level for level, is a perfect Zeraora better than a perfect Zekrom? How do the two Electric/Flying Legendaries Thundurus and Zapdos compare? Who is the best Electric-type in Master League? As always, the strongest Pokémon depends on the situation, which is why our lists below come with a brief note for each Pokémon, telling you where and how it is useful.

As with our list of best Pokémon in Pokémon Go, we’re going to avoid covering Shadow Pokémon and Mega Pokémon. Including them would pretty much knock everything else out of this list. And finally, it's also worth adding that this is an editorialised list of Pokémon - it's not strictly the Pokémon that throw the biggest punches.

Here’s a breakdown of the best Electric-type Legendary Pokémon:

Zeraora

• Zeraora types: Electric
• Zeraora weaknesses: Ground
• Main use: Raids

Zeraora is quite possibly the best Mythical Pokémon in the game, and easily the top Electric attacker in Pokémon Go. When Mega Zeraora is finally released, you know it’s going to pack one hell of a punch.

There’s not much else to say as far as PVE goes – Zeraora is well worth investing in, especially if you have one with high IVs.

Unfortunately, Zeraora suffers from its high attack in PVP, where you generally want low attack and high defence. You could probably use it in Master League, but there are simply better (and cheaper) options out there at the moment.

Zekrom

• Zekrom types: Dragon/Electric
• Zekrom weaknesses: Dragon, Fairy, Ground and Ice
• Main use: Raids, Master League, Kyurem

Zekrom is an incredibly important Pokémon. Not only is it the best Electric-type Pokémon in Master League, but it’s a god-tier Electric type Raid attacker thanks to its signature move Fusion Bolt. It’s also an excellent Dragon-type attacker, which is always a welcome bonus.

Finally, it’s important to note that Black Kyurem, the second-best Ice-type attacker in the game, is a fusion of Zekrom and Kyurem. This requires one Kyurem, one Zekrom, 1,000 Volt Fusion Energy, 30 Kyurem Candy and 30 Zekrom Candy. Fortunately, the stats are inherited solely from Kyurem, so you this is a good use for any low-IV Kyurem you pick up.

Xurkitree

• Xurkitree types: Electric
• Xurkitree weaknesses: Ground
• Main use: Raids

We know that Ultra Beasts aren’t technically Legendary, but since they function much the same way, we’re including them in this list. And with that disclaimer out of the way, Xurkitree is an absolute demon with a phenomenal attack stat.

That attack stat is so disgusting that simply giving it Dazzling Gleam makes it a very good off-type Fairy attacker, outperforming the likes of Mega Gallade, Sylveon and Mega Diancie. Basically, despite its appearance, this Pokémon is no joke. It’s only slightly weaker than Zekrom.

Unsurprisingly, when you spike the attack that hard, it becomes useless in PVP. You could run it in Master League, but as with Zeraora above, there are better (and cheaper) options.

Therian Thundurus

• Therian Thundurus types: Electric/Flying
• Thundurus weaknesses: Ice and Rock
• Main use: Raids

Therian (non-cloudy) Thundurus became a real contender with the release of its signature move, Wildbolt Storm. This, coupled with its high attack stat, helped boost it to the lofty heights of “almost but not quite as good as Xurkitree”.

When you compare it to its immediate competition, it sits well above Zapdos and Incarnate Thundurus. If you’re looking for a Flying/Electric type, this is the one you’ll want to invest in.

Just be aware that, like lightning, it hits hard and fast. Thundurus is very fragile and has a notable weakness in Ice – if you’re in a Water-type raid, be aware that the enemy may have a sneaky Ice Beam (or similar) which can blow you out of the, well, water.

Best Electric-type non-Legendary Pokémon

As a rule of thumb, Legendary Pokémon are typically stronger than non-Legendary Pokémon. However, if things were that simple you wouldn’t be here.

Some pseudo-Legendries and even the odd regular Pokémon can go toe-to-toe with even the most famous Pokémon. Electric is a type that bucks this trend – Zeraora, Zekrom and Xurkitree – stand head and shoulders (and cables) above the rest of the competition. That said, you don’t start the game with these ultra-powerful Pokémon and there are some budget options well worth considering.

Plus, given that maxing out a non-Legendary Pokémon is generally cheaper than doing the same for a Legendary, it’s good to know how they stack up when a more budget version is available.

Again, this is an editorialised list of Pokémon, not simply those who have the biggest attack stats.

Here's a breakdown of the best Electric-type non-Legendary Pokémon:

Electivire

• Electivire types: Electric
• Electivire weaknesses: Ground
• Main use: Raid attacker

Electivire has a very good Attack stat, helping it into the top 10 Electric-type attackers, just behind Zapdos. When you throw Shadows back into the mix, Shadow Electivire sits above regular Therian Thundurus. As far as budget options go, Electivire is one of your top two options alongside Magnezone.

As with most Electric-type Pokémon, such a lofty Attack stat comes at the expense of Defence, making this a pretty fragile Pokémon. It’s not suited to PVP or Gym defence as a result.

Magnezone

• Magnezone types: Electric/Steel
• Magnezone weaknesses: Ground (2x), Fighting and Fire
• Main use: Raid attacker, Gym defence

Magnezone occupies a really cool space as the only useful Electric/Steel-type Pokémon. It’s also pretty handy (magnety?) as a Steel-type attacker running Metal Sound and Flash Cannon.

But more importantly, the Steel typing adds a lot of bulk that the rest of this list is sorely lacking. This opens Magnezone up as a decent gym defender, though it should be noted that the weakness to Fighting is a bit of a liability.

Luxray

• Luxray types: Electric
• Luxray weaknesses: Ground
• Main use: Raids

Luxray is the last Pokémon on our list of budget Electric-type Pokémon worth investing in, sitting high enough above Jolteon in attack level also being an easily accessible Pokémon.

We wouldn’t be disappointed to see these in the same Raid lobby, as a maxed out Luxray can put out a good amount of damage. The caveat – which should be obvious at this point – is that it sorely lacks in defence, so if you do use or see one, it won’t be around for long.

Note: Unlike in the main series games, there is no Immunity in Pokémon Go! Ground is very resistant to Electric-type moves, but it is not immune.
